My trip to israel was wonderful seeing family I took a long trip from Montpelier Vermont 2'weeks ago
My main purpose there was to have a mental health vacation to let my hair down guess what I have no hair lol
However this travel blog entry is a very important one besides seeing our niece get married and doing some wonderful things like seeing Channel 12 Israel news in Action and taking a wonderful picture with my wife of Israeli Rap Artist Naseem Black and going to a kosher Japanese Restaurant and being a secret agent because the restaurant was in a supermarket back room in Jerusalem, this travel blog consists of the fact that Israel is not only a beautiful country but extremely accessible to the blind and visually impaired community
Although there are pros and cons to everything
Advice being visually impaired and the fact my vision is getting worse
I suggest the following tips when traveling abroad especially to Israel
A Certain Buildings and Streets get darker at night use reflective clothing and a white Cane
B Ask for Accessibility Accomodations with a bus pass if you want to travel certain cities in Israel by bus you must bring documentation with you documenting disability a letter doesn't do it bring a card saying your challenged
C when Navigating Airports call ahead for assistance TSA will help you like they did me it might take a while but have patience get as much help as you need
D when navigating stores especially small grocery stores abroad be careful of things on the floor boxes and other things that might be in the way not everyone knows about blindness ask them to move things so you can navigate the small spaces
when coming home I encountered a problem of snow storms and took a cab because my bus cancelled
The last piece of advice is important take other taxis that don't hike prices or charge to much always ask for help
I didn't use Uber or lift which I know I should of always check cab prices ahead of time being taken advantaged of abroad local cabs can cost more happen be careful and have fun and most important don't let people or businesses take advantage of you because your disabled
